Teaching Workshop on Protein Glycosylation in Health and Disease

The Teaching Workshop of the DFG Research Unit FOR2509: “The Concert of Dolichol-Based Glycosylation: From Molecules to Disease Models” took place at Heidelberg University on July 2nd 2019.

The primary concern of this Teaching Workshop was to bring together leading scientists from diverse fields of glycosylation with PhD students and Postdocs with only basic knowledge in glycobiology.  The interactive way to transfer the essential aspects for understanding the metabolic pathways and pathology of glycosylation was done by lectures and informal discussions during lunch and coffee breaks.

68 PhD students and Postdocs of the area Rhine–Neckar, Karlsruhe, Hannover, Frankfurt, Magdeburg and Munster got a comprehensive overview about the biosynthesis of glycoproteins and their function in mammalian cells.

The aim of this workshop was to raise the interest of young scientists for glycobiology in areas such as cell and developmental biology as well as to gain insight into the pathomechanisms of defective glycosylation as an exciting field of research.
